I broke my own rule yesterday and bought something I didn’t really need. Why? Because the energy behind it NEEDED support.
They were in a basket on the counter at The Garden, when I went to make my usual product delivery.
“So sweet! Who make them?” Haha… I speak fluent Tinglish after many years here.
She pointed to her staff.
“Her nephew. Live in Lamphun. Not enough work.”
And so in a country that doesn’t have unemployment benefits, he MADE something from what he had, and his aunt took them to the city to sell to some tourists at the restaurant where she works. Well, I think he and his cups need all the support he can get. And it’s one more house that isn’t BURNING its old coconut shells. I bought two.
I kinda like that they’re not uniform, and that they simply ooze sincerity and authenticity.
How exorbitantly expensive are they? 40 baht each. USD $1.28
In a world screaming about LESS PLASTIC and ZERO WASTE it’s important to encourage people stepping up. I think.
So if you or your cafe, restaurant etc would like to buy or order some coconut shell cups, pop into The Garden and chat with the staff there. You can find their location (just tucked in behind Tapae Road), reviews, pics and more here in their Trip Adviser Review . Yes, you can also pick up a bottle of our 100% Natural Insect Repellent or Bug Bite Balm there.
Great place for breakfast, a casual bite or a great coffee. And coconut shell cups.
